Looking for Linda PDF Print E-mail

I wrote this wee poem quite some time ago ... probably 15 years or so ago! I hope you like it.

Looking for Linda

Bestowed upon me
A Gift.
Within it's shell
There is me.
Really!
It's me.

This shell
That you see.
It's hard
Protects me.
It's stern
Face looks.
It's skin
Smooth and hard.
It's complexion
Masked.

This shell
That you see.
Isn't at
All me.
It sees
The sun.
It breaths
Pollution.
Everywhere
Wandering
This earth's
Dominion.

This shell
You think to be me.
Is not
My vessel, my Gift.

This shell
Is but a case, like
Luggage
That has been worn, and
Luggage
That has been torn, and
Luggage that
I've weathered within
For many a storm.

Bestowed upon me.
A Gift.
Within this shell
There is me.

So
Next time
You think
You're looking
At me
Remember
I may not be there.
