medieval piper celtic knot painting

This red headed fellow was illustrated in 1997. I found it while cleaning out my old art while organizing the house this spring. He was originally designed as a commission for a tattoo, but I lost track of the man who wanted it.

He's got some spiritual spiral designs on his body, snakes on his legs and a closed celtic knot on his arms. It's not too likely that he'd be in the height of fashion if he actually wore tights like that in the medieval ages, but it makes for a fairly authentic type celtic illustration. This acrylic painting will make a perfect gift for your favourite musician.

This is a celtic style illustration, or painting, of a medieval man playing an old version of the bagpipes. The celts didn't create art in a realistic fashion. Most believe it's because they didn't want to insult God's ability to create by trying to recreate an image one of his works badly. I sometimes think it was because they themselves were more original.

This medieval piper is done in a Zoomorphic Style, though I did try to make the old bagpipes look as accurate as I could at the time.

The original acrylic is 9 x 9 inches on illustration board, unframed.
