Face of the World
Olya of the Sky PDF Print E-mail
olyaofthesky-150
This original acrylic is painted on 24" x 24" gallery canvas. Painted in 2004.

Olya was in a writing group I went to in Barrie, Ontario. She was writing her moving and beautifully written memoires. Olya was quite talented with words, but even more with languages, as she knew many. You should see in the enlarged image that I've place some 'words' faintly in the painting to represent this part of her powerful character. In many of these "Face of the World" paintings I tried to include something of the character of my willing subjects.

Olya was a survivor of the second world war and was a sensitive spirit. She was full of energy, life and still had a lot of important things to do. I felt compelled to paint her in the swiftly moving, yet soft clowds.

The original photo of this pretty lady was taken by my nephew on is trip to the Asian continent. The part of the planet she blends with so nicely is also a wee piece of said continent. She shows all of the colours of her part of the world in her vibrant skin.

There is a depth and beauty to the land we live on, regardless of how sparse it may be in some areas of the planet. There is an abundance of life not seen from space and is not to be taken for-granted.

Eye of the Storm PDF Print E-mail
susan of the storm-orignal acrylic painting
This original acrylic is painted on 24" x 24" gallery canvas. Painted in 2004.

Nothing is more powerful than the eye of a giant storm like the one in this painting. The second most powerful thing is the window to our souls - our eyes. Susan, this beautiful lady, has such beautiful eyes I was compelled to create this painting.

There is nothing more telling or more intriguing about people than their eyes. I suppose that's why I still doodle them today, and why I drew them so often since childhood. Can you tell if someone is speaking the truth when you look into their eyes? Can you see their soul?

Native Land PDF Print E-mail

This original acrylic is painted on 24" x 24" gallery canvas. Painted in 2004.

Here you see the beauty of some great lakes, just not our Canadian Great Lakes. It is a great desert, though I can't quite recall which one. The man is a native Canadian man I met here in Barrie, Ontario.

We seem to be of the mind that we own this land. That this planet is our planet. I tend to take another view - we belong to the earth! It's a human need to create order where we perceive chaos, so we make rules and set boundaries. When you look at images of our planet given to us by Nasa, you don't see boundaries.

This man who is truly native to Canada is really native to this planet, as we all are.
